Case Studies - Building Services Engineering
Commissioning problem with heating system
The project involved the refurbishment of a large office building. During the course of the works a number of problems arose, which led to a number of legal claims including fire safety systems, clashes of services, finishes in toilets and washrooms, placement of lighting fixtures. These matters were addressed in our report.
Flooding from Failure of Fitting on Airconditioning Unit
A contractor was carrying out maintenance to the heating and ventilation fan coil units in an office building. The work involved replacement of the fan motor and the water supply was not switched off. When the unit was started up again a joint in the cold water supply to the unit failed and the office equipment below was flooded.
The project involved the construction of a new preparatory school on the existing school site, providing classrooms, break out spaces, offices, a multi-purpose assembly hall, nursery zone, toilets and wash areas, staff space, boardroom, and a series small food preparation areas and external playground, circulation and plant spaces. The total internal area of the facility extended to approximately 3,275m2 laid out over four floors.
Case Study - Bells Sports Centre
Live Active operate the Bells Sports Centre and has found that the various works, extensions and links created over time between buildings has resulted in complicated, high maintenance building systems which have a high energy usage and cost. Live Active appointed Cadogans for Building Services design advice to help them resolve these issues.
Case Study Heating Investigation & Replacement New Gorbals
New Gorbals Housing Association (NGHA) was experiencing frequent pipework failures, leakages and metering problems associated with the district heating infrastructure serving 276 dwellings in two of its multi-storey blocks at Caledonia Road. These problems were resulting in significant maintenance costs and revenue collection difficulties for the Association and loss of amenity for the residents.
Cadogans has operated within the healthcare sector since the firm started in 1970. Historically Cadogans develops close working relationships with clients, other design team members and contractors. Collaboration and co-operation at all stages, from design, construction and commissioning has in our experience lead to delivery of successful projects. Cadogans is aware of, subscribes to and works closely with all the relevant healthcare design codes (STM’s, HTM’s MEIgan regulations etc.), planning notes, HAI Scribe documentation, NHS sustainability guides etc.
Case Study - Nuclear Medicine Department at Ninewells Hospital
The Nuclear Medicine Unit at Ninewells Hospital uses radioactive material in some diagnoses and treatments carrying out over 7000 scans per year. The demand for the Units service had outgrown its existing home. Cadogans were part of the design team and provided Building Services Design services for the new Nuclear Medicine Department.
