Concrete Cladding Panels

concpanels.jpg

There had been some problems with the external concrete cladding on a stair tower of a large building. An inspection was carried out and proposals for remedial works prepared by a local small consultant.

The proposed remedial works were much more extensive than the owners of the building had anticipated and they asked Cadogans for a second opinion on the proposals.

The work was carried out to address cracking and surface spalling of the existing concrete panels on the stair tower. It had been reported that the decay of the concrete was caused by carbonation and/or chloride attack to the concrete panels.

It was discovered that the carbonation and chloride attack had penetrated deep into the concrete panels. The concrete panels had also rotated relative to each other in the vertical plane.

The problems were examined and evaluated and the recommendations were considered and analysed.

An opinion was given on the civil engineering survey and remedial work methods proposed to be carried out on the concrete panels.
