Shuaiba Oil Pier Civil Engineering

The project comprised the rehabilitation of Shuaiba Oil Pier which had been extensively damaged during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. The pier comprises a North Arm and a South Arm, each having an inner and an outer berth suitable for very large crude carriers (VLCCs). The berths are linked to the shore by a 1km long Approach Trestle.
The South Arm was reconstructed with only the original piles being retained (but strengthened). The North Arm and the Approach Trestle were retained although extensive repairs were required. During the rehabilitation works, the North Arm remained in use and work in that area was carried out during possession of one berth at a time.
Cadogans took part in the original survey of the Pier and was responsible for the design of some of the elements.
Cadogans was also responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the civil works.
The civil construction works included the following.
- Demolition works in a hazardous area
- Piling works
- Steelwork
- Concrete works including concrete repair works
- Fendering
