Experience

Simon is an experienced electrical engineer with over 15 years in the building services industry. Simon has been responsible for the design of electrical services and project management and co-ordination on a range of projects in the Public Sector, Retail, Education and Health Care Sectors, working to tight deadlines and ensuring delivery of the projects within the tight constraints of client programmes.

Simon places great emphasis in ensuring the delivery of client needs, and makes every effort to assist in developing a correct brief tailored to individual requirements. Simon then applies this information to the design process and ultimately a successful project delivery.

Simon is registered as an Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council and is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, with extensive experience in the construction industry. Responsible for delivering key projects within a variety of sectors both as a designer and project manager, leading projects from conception through to final delivery.

SELECTED DESIGN AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROJECTS

Healthcare

Ridge Hill Learning Disabilities Centre, Dudley NHS L.I.F.T.

Responsible for the electrical design for this new build project, which provided intensive assessment and treatment for patients with a moderate to severe learning disability and complex needs. This was carried out on behalf of the projects main contractor, Carillion.

Brierley Hill Health Centre, Dudley NHS L.I.F.T.

Responsible for the electrical design for this new build project, which provided integrated services for three GP practices, three dental surgeries, audiology, chiropody and leg ulcer service; this was carried out on behalf of the projects main contractor, Carillion.

Dunnock Way Health Centre, Oxford NHS L.I.F.T.

Responsible for the electrical design for this new build project, which provided integrated services for GP practices and dental surgeries; this was carried out on behalf of the projects main contractor, Carillion.

East Oxford Health Centre, Oxford NHS L.I.F.T.

Responsible for the electrical design for this new build project, which provided integrated services for GP practices and dental surgeries; this was carried out on behalf of the projects main contractor, Carillion.

Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride

Responsible for the design of the electrical systems for a refurbishment project at ‘Hairmyres Hospital' in East Kilbride, on behalf of the project’s Main Contractor, Graham Construction. This involved the refurbishment of existing dental suites to a new minor treatment department. The project was carried out while the hospital remained fully open and required careful coordination with the project team throughout.

Stratharco Hospital, Angus

Responsible for bringing the existing theatre electrical supplies up to current standards, on behalf of our client NHS Tayside. This was done by designing a new uninterruptable power supply and isolated power service arrangement, new medial socket outlets and an updated earthing system.

Raigmore Hospital, Inverness

Responsible for the surveying of the electrical services at the ‘Raigmore hospital’ located in Inverness. The surveys were to enable the verification of existing ‘As Installed’ drawings and to record the main electrical containment routes. The information taken from the survey was marked over existing services drawings, the survey photographs were numbered and crossed reference to locations on the drawings, all information was issued as part of a report to our client the main contractor, Graham Construction.

Wishaw General Hospital, Wishaw

Responsible for the design of the electrical systems for a refurbishment project at ‘Wishaw General Hospital' in Wishaw, on behalf of the project’s Main Contractor, Graham Construction. This involved the refurbishment of existing departments to form a new medical day bed unit. The project is being carried out while the hospital remains fully open and requires careful coordination with the project team throughout.

Borders General Hospital, Melrose

Responsible for the design of the electrical systems for a refurbishment project at ‘Borders General Hospital' in Melrose, on behalf of the hospitals estates department. This involved the refurbishment of the operating theatre ventilation systems, including a new rooftop plantroom. The project is being carried out while the hospital remains fully open and requires careful coordination with the project team throughout.

Ninewells Hospital, Dundee

Responsible for the design of the electrical systems for a refurbishment project at ‘Ninewells Hospital' in Dundee, This involves the provision of new electrical infrastructure including generator backup systems and new rooftop plantrooms. The project is being carried out while the hospital remains fully open and will require careful coordination with the project team throughout.

 

Education

Annan Academy Music & Drama Facility, Annan

Responsible for the electrical designs for this new build project, this was a new building on the site of the existing school. This was for our client at Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Derby High School - New Music Block, Derby

Responsible for the electrical designs for this new build project, this was a new building on the site of the existing school. The New Music Block comprised of a sound recording studio, recital room and practice spaces, common room, office and classrooms. The music block was linked to the existing school at ground and first floor, with stairwells linking each floor at either end of the building.

New Chemistry Block, Loughborough Endowed Schools

Responsible for the electrical designs for the construction of a new chemistry block at Loughborough Endowed Schools. The New Chemistry Block comprised of classroom laboratories and prep areas to the ground and first floors.

University of Glasgow

I carried out conditional surveys for our client the 'University of Glasgow’. This involved surveying the existing fire alarm services installation in all of their buildings. I then produced a detailed report and drawings, identifying areas that met current standards and areas where upgrades were required. This information was presented to the client during a meeting where I also produced budget costs for the works to be carried out.

Queen Margaret University – Art Therapy Studio

Responsible for the electrical designs for this project, for our client Queen Margaret University. This was a refurbishment on the site of the existing university. The art therapy studio comprised of a two existing teaching rooms being combined to one unit. The existing light rafts were retained and the lighting modules within retrofitted with LED modules.

Queen Margaret University – Green Travel Change Facility

Responsible for the electrical designs for this new build project, on behalf of our client Queen Margaret University .This was a new building on the site of the existing university. The change facility comprised of showers, changing areas and plant areas, the changing facility fire, security, and metering systems were linked to the existing university via underground cabling.

Queen Margaret University – Boilerhouse Fire Detection and Alarm system

  • Responsible for investigating the existing fire detection and alarm system which was experiencing false alarms, on behalf of our client Queen Margaret University.  I provided proposals for an alternative form of fire detection to that currently installed, and also new carbon monoxide detection within the boilerhouse and fuel storage areas, with a view to reducing the number of false alarms.

Queen Margaret University – Accommodation blocks lighting refurbishment

 ·        Responsible for the electrical designs for this project, on behalf of our client Queen Margaret University. This was a refurbishment of the accommodation blocks on the site of the existing university. This project entailed the replacement of the existing lighting with LED alternatives and the provision of a new controls system.

Public Sector

Motherwell Civic Centre 1 & 2, Motherwell

Responsible for the electrical designs for the refurbishment of several buildings, this also included the replacement of the main electrical switchgear and associated electrical distribution equipment. This was for our client at North Lanarkshire Council; the project was carried out while the buildings were still open and required careful coordination with the project team throughout.

Motherwell Civic Centre Phase 3, Motherwell

Responsible for the electrical design to allow for the upgrade and rearrangement of the data centre, this included a new high level power outlet distribution system and a new clean earth system. I also designed an upgraded uninterruptable power supply system and associated electrical distribution equipment. This was for our client at North Lanarkshire Council, the project was carried out while the data centre was still in use and required careful coordination with the client throughout.

Community Common Room, Kilsyth

Responsible for the electrical design for this new build project, which was a community building, made up of offices, meeting rooms and kitchens, this was for our client at North Lanarkshire Council

European Marine Science Park, Oban

Responsible for the electrical designs for this new build project, which involved the construction of a new two story office / laboratory development, this was for our client the Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

Retained Fire Station, Isle of Uist

The project involved the construction of a new single story Fire Station located adjacent to an existing ambulance station and comprised of an Appliance Bay, Muster Bay & ancillary areas. This was for our client at the Highland Council.

Department of Work & Pensions, Stirling

I carried out dilapidation surveys for our client the 'Department of Work & Pensions’. This involved surveying the existing services installation, checking periodic inspection and testing records, maintenance records and contract conditions. I then produced detailed reports on the findings to the client in written form and also at a meeting discuss the contents.

Riverside District Heating Implementation, Glasgow

  • I was Responsible for the electrical performance specifications for this refurbishment project, for the New Gorbals Housing Association. This was a high-rise accommodation building and involved the refurbishment of basement plant areas, individual flats and provision of a new central boilerhouse.

Silverburn Z Unit Alterations, Glasgow

Responsible for redesigning the existing landlord electrical services installation to allow for new tenant systems to be installed. This was on behalf of the project’s Main Contractor, Graham Construction. The project was carried out while the busy retail hub remained fully open and required careful coordination with the project team throughout.

Industrial

Monklands Industrial Unit Refurbishment

Responsible for the electrical designs for this project, on behalf of our client Trident Building. This project entailed the conversion of two existing warehouse units into a single unit. The existing lighting system was replaced with a new energy efficient LED low bay solution.
